Kiln

The kiln is home made with a heavy fire brick base and firebox, K26 diatomous earth hotface and vermiculate brick insulation. Two Nu-way burners fire from the front of the kiln fed on domestic heating oil from a header tank. The kiln has approximately 40 cubic feet packing space and uses about 45 gallons of oil per firing. Reduction is monitored using an oxygen meter and is maintained at 500-700mV from about 970^oC upwards.
